OCEARCH reported that Contender, the largest great white shark tracked in the program at 1,600 pounds, has reached Newfoundland waters. This is the first time a tagged shark from the program has swum into those waters. Contender is the largest shark OCEARCH has ever tagged.

In a separate incident, a surfer was bitten by a shark at Glenfield Beach in Western Australia. Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart recalled "My heart stopped" as she gave new details about the incident. Scientists also described discovering the largest shark known.
