On July 30, 2026, at least nine migrants died as they tried to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. A flood of people overran the border. Spanish troops were sent in after local officials were unable to control the crowd. Ceuta’s authorities stated that about 40,000 migrants entered on foot, roughly half the city’s 80,000 residents.
The European Union said Frontex would assist and asked Morocco to exits via water and overland routes. Spanish forces maintained control over the flow under control and strived to stop further deaths.
