TV watching shifted further toward streaming in July 2026. Cable TV viewership dropped to a record low. Nielsen said that streaming took 49% of household TV share. YouTube topped all streaming services with 14% of TV viewership. The previous records were broken as more viewers chose on-demand content.
Separately, cable news saw no boost from Donald Trump's GOP midterm convention. The event did not create a viewership bounce. Ratings for cable news remained unchanged after the convention. These numbers show the continuing decline of cable television.
