Heat across countries north of the Alps is now hitting forty in a number of cities. An advisory was first issued in the Netherlands when temps rose above seven-and-thirty, and officials have kept it in place through the weekend. In the capital people are hanging curtains outside to keep the harsh sun out. The oppressive weather is stressing homes built for colder months.
Experts say more than 1300 extra deaths have been linked to the heat across areas. Nighttime levels stay high, experts say. They urge residents to drink fluids, stay out of the sun at the worst times and find shade.
